Where it goes wrong in practice
The timing never lines up
A collection is ready when it's ready. A pregnancy follows its own schedule. Getting those two to align costs you weeks of delay or a compromise in your visuals.
The story doesn't add up on a standard model
Maternity wear on a non-pregnant model fails to show exactly what the buyer wants to know. All that's left is text, and text doesn't remove that doubt.
Recurring costs with every new line
Casting, booking and scheduling all over again for each collection. For a webshop with a few dozen items per season, that math doesn't work out.
A matching model, from one upload
You upload the garment as you have it. We show it on a matching model, with the same look across your entire line — even when you add new items in March and again in September.
- The garment itself stays unchanged: fabric, print, seams and colour come from your photo
- Fit over the bump made visible, not smoothed away
- The same look with every next item, even months later
- Product copy, alt text and size info in Dutch, German, English and French
- No model contract and no expiring usage rights
What matters when shooting maternity wear
Maternity wear has a few specific points that don't come up with regular fashion. These five show up most often in customer questions.
- Show the stretch — A ruched panel, a side opening or an adjustable waistband is exactly why someone buys this. Photograph that detail separately.
- Show how it sits over the bump — This is the question behind every order. On a hanger, that question stays unanswered.
- Mention up to which month it works — If you know this, put it in the text. It saves an email and it saves a return.
- State the model's height — For tunics and dresses, this determines how the hem falls. "Model is 5'10" and wears size M" does more than a size chart.
- Keep the fabric recognisable — Soft, stretchy fabrics are the selling point here. A sharp source photo in daylight keeps that texture intact.
Why this matters even more for maternity wear
Returns in women's fashion sit around 28 percent, and most of that comes down to fit. With maternity wear, that uncertainty is even bigger, because a buyer isn't just judging her current size but the coming months too. Images that show how something fits aren't a luxury here — they're the difference between an order and a doubt. The same logic applies to women's jeans, where fit is the entire selling point.

Frequently asked questions
Does it actually look real?
The garment comes from your photo and isn't redrawn. What you upload is what the customer sees — just worn instead of flat.
Can I keep the same look across multiple collections?
Yes, that's the point of the brand profile: you set the model, light and framing once, and every next item uses that same setup.
Does this help me sell into Germany too?
Copy is written in four languages, each one written directly in that language, not translated. Umstandsmode is a big market and you'll have the copy ready for it right away.
What does it cost to get started?
Nothing. Six images are free and you don't need an account for that; you keep the images even if you don't order anything further.
Does this also work for nursing wear and postpartum items?
Yes. Nursing tops, dresses and postpartum items follow the same approach; the scanner recognises the type of item on its own. For nursing openings, it helps to include a close-up shot.
Can I show the same item in multiple colours?
Yes. Provide a source photo per colour and you'll get all of them on the same model, in the same pose. That way your customer is really comparing colours, not two different photos.
